A Hundred Lives For You is the story of Abhimanyu Sharma, 13, who is on the threshold of a new beginning when his father’s remarks scars him and changes his relationships forever. As you turn the pages, you will feel an emotional connect with Abhimanyu. Abhisar Sharma has written this story very well that we can instantly relate ourselves with this story. We have all been through that phase of life where we had to give up our dreams to fulfill the ambition of our parents. We all had that one relative (here his Daddu) who we could confide into. From pranks on teachers to the first kiss – Abhimanyu’s tale will take you through a joyride of memories. They have also described the horror of 1984 Delhi riots, and how relationships are scarred in the backdrop of the anti-Sikh pogrom. A comparatively slow paced at the start, the book picks up speed and makes you correlates many experiences with your own. The frightened kid growing into someone one aims to, the first crush, the conflicts during riot, the ever growing complications, the unending care for someone not exactly related by any relationship, the misunderstandings and yes, the happy ending. And I liked that for a change. Just a perfect mingling of relationships that can be put in a book! Simple story, great emotions, good use of the country’s timeline, weak first half, good narrative, few editorial misses, and a very strong father-daughter relationship in the second half of the book. Go for it.
