Amazing read Dikri Mari Dost: Letters to a Daughter, is the first edition of an collection of personal letters to her teenage daughter, In there are 45, two-to-three page missives covering a wide-range of topics including: responsibilities, finding a husband, choosing a career, grandparents, customs, and the value and importance of work. Distinctively, the author doesn’t shy away from difficult – yet necessary – subjects for adolescents, including virginity, sexual immorality and discipline. In Parents are people too, author talks honestly and directly about learning to be and fulfilling the numerous roles of a mother and daughter. She instructs: Good relationships that lead to good marriages are happy relationships. Both parties have good feelings about themselves and the relationship.A young person will have to accept that there will be some curtailment of ‘freedom’, as long as she is living under her parents’ guardianship. … To win the trust of parents, a young person really has to earn it. Coming home on time is one example. Obedience is an old fashioned word, but if you expect your parents to trust you, you will have to start obeying them.” Again, these are sagely words of advice borne, I think, from much thought, practical wisdom and loving consideration for what’s best for a relationship in the long run.
