About The Author

Franklyn M. Branley was Astronomer Emeritus and former chairman of the American Museum of Natural History–Hayden Planeterium. In 1960, he originated the Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science series, dedicated to explaining science to young children and encouraging them to explore their world. Dr. Branley was the author of over 150 science books for children.
Megan Lloyd has illustrated more than forty books for children, including The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams, Thanksgiving at the Tappletons’ by Eileen Spinelli and The Mixed-Up Rooster by Pamela Duncan Edwards. She has also illustrated two other titles in the Let’s-Read-and- Find-Out Science Series, Falcons Nest on Skyscrapers and Volcanoes. She lives in Pennsylvania.
