Chetan Bhagat (born 22 April 1974) is an Indian author, columnist, screenwriter, television personality and motivational speaker, known for his English-language dramedy novels about young urban middle-class Indians.
A noted public intellectual, Bhagat also writes for columns about youth, career development and current affairs for The Times of India (in English) and Dainik Bhaskar (in Hindi).
Bhagat's novels have sold over seven million copies. In 2008, The New York Times cited Bhagat as “the biggest selling English language novelist in India's history”.
Bhagat's screenwriting efforts have included the dramedies Kai Po Che! (2013), 2 States (2014) and the action-superhero movie Kick (2015). Half Girlfriend is a story about two young fellows, Bihari boy Madhav, a Hindi speaking Bihari who falls in love with Riya, an influential Delhi girl on the campus of prestigious St. Stephen’s College. Madhav belongs to middle class family, while Riya is from higher class and both have different lifestyles. Madhav proposes her, but Riya rejects the proposal because she thinks they are good as a friend only.The plot of the book is an another script for Bollywood girl-boy love story movie.1. A (portrayed as) loser guy: Madhav.2. A girl supposedly out of his league (and one page dedicated to the introduction her looks).3. Guy’s love at first sight (because of smell of her perfume or any random reason).4. His pursuit (in his head) to get her.5. Girl eventually falling for him after incessant attempts.
