This takes the form of Tom’s battered homework diary crammed with his doodles and stories. Exciting News! Mr Fullerman announces that class 5F are going on an ‘Activity Break’! Which should be fun. As long as I don’t ge stuck in a group with anyone who snores or worse still with …Marcus Meldrew. Delia is already threatening to paint my room funny colours while I’m away. Which is annoying. I just hope the only surprise I hae when I get home is the new pet that I hear Mum and Dad talking about. Because I’ve always wanted a pet!

Children Read Themselves: 9-14
Reading is a healthy ritual for children, Skryf believes!
L. Pichon says that when she was little, she loved to draw, and her mom said she was very good at making a mess (this is still true today). She kept drawing, went to art school, became a designer and art director at Jive Records, and began to publish childrens books. After its publication in the U.K., The Brilliant World of Tom Gates won several prestigious awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Waterstones Childrens Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award. L. Pichon lives in Brighton, England, with her family.

Skryf Review
Excellent Book
Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic’ follows our lively and young protagonist Tom. This time the novel centres mostly around his school excursion or “School Activity Trip” which, because he is so forgetful, our dear Tom almost misses out on. It was a nice little novel that readers will laugh at many times. Some of the most annoying characters return in this novel such as the despicable and arrogant Marcus and the face-pulling new girl-next-door.
